Public Welcome Chapter Meeting

Russell and Laci Prucinsky gave a presentation on common lichens and mosses in our area.  Russell had gathered a number of different mosses from his property.  Attendees were then given tools to help them identify each moss from the information presented.

This was a joint meeting with the East Ozark Audubon Society.  Many attendees arrived early to help with maintenance of the Winston Butterfly Garden.  A talk was given by an MDS rep on invasive MO plants and the best ways to eradicate them.

Rose gave a presentation on the Bumble Bee Atlas Project which she has been involved in for the past couple of years.  Scott gave a presentation on how to catch and photograph the bees.  Then the group took a walk in their field to try some sightings.

Billy Haag from Forest Releaf gave a talk on the benefits of forests, invasive species and stand improvement.  A good question/answer/discussion period followed with a walk through the Bales' property.  Mo Bales had a table set up with many sustainable products.

Sarah Dietzel gave a talk on common mushrooms to be found in Missouri as well as which were edible, and which were poisonous.  She had a variety of mushrooms to show.  The group then took a walk on the property to search for mushrooms.

Deer Resistant Strategies and Seed Swap

Public Welcome Chapter Meeting Wheelchair Accessible Public Restroom

All who attended brought seeds from native plants collected from their yards/properties.  Seeds were labeled with common and scientific name.  Attendees were able to peruse seeds and take what they liked.  Those who brought seeds were able to tell others the conditions that best suited each plant.  A discussion was also held with attendees sharing ideas of what had worked/ not worked on their properties to deter deer from eating their native plants.
